A kid I'm babysitting just peed on my suede couch! How do I get the smell out???
OMG! I am just LIVID mad right now! I am babysitting and the 4 yr old just peed all over my couch and didn’t say anything. She just SAT THERE so it spread out all over TWO cushions, all down inbetween them both, AND the underneath of both cushions is wet, too! That’s how much pee she had in her! This couch is new and less than a year old and is a suede leather queen size sofa sleeper and was extremely expensive!! (99!). I am furious! I’ve taken a wet washcloth and put hand soap on it and scrubbed vigorously all over both cushions twice, then took a fresh wet washcloth and went over them again twice to try to "rise" the soap out of them, and then I went over them w/a dry towel and blotted trying to soak up the wetness. I also have the ceiling fan on high. But they STILL SMELL LIKE RIPE URINE!!!
Can someone give me some advice on how to better clean suede leather and how to get the nasty urine smell out of it?
Thank you VERY much!!!
Okay, it didn’t exactly work. It still reeks like pee!
Thanks for the help, guys!

At Sam’s Club you can purchase you can buy Oda Ban that really does get any odor out and makes things smell great too.

Okay first of all, Ew.
Second, here’s what I would do -
Put the cushions on the ground, and put old ratty towels over the stains. Then put heavy books on the towels and leave them there as long as you can. The towels will absorb most of the moisture.
Then, use a cleanser that will get urine out (nothing with ammonia in it, which will just enhance the rank). I am thinking even Nature’s Miracle – which I use when my puppy pees on the carpet – would work.
Lastly, never babysit that kid again.
Good luck!

The baking soda/peroxide would work to get the stain out, and no, peroxide will not bleach out any colors…I use it as a stain remover for everything from grape juice to blood, on any fabric and it’s doesn’t effect the color. Vinegar is the best solution for odors of that nature. If the smell is too strong, use 1/2 water, 1/2 vinegar. I too have kids and pets, and it’s the best I’ve found for odor removal. If even the diluted vinegar smells bad, than try putting some scented candles around the couch or some lavendar sachets (small cloth bags with lavendar and rice or just lavendar in them). Also putting the lavendar sachets in the couch crevice will hide what is making the heavenly aroma and cover up the vinegar smell…

Stop with the water! Water on leather is awful and just spreads the urine crystals around. The uric acid salts have to be broken down chemically. I don’t know if ther peroxide and baking soda will work but at this point, try it. It works on breaking down skunk stink by destroying the problem chemcially.
Most urine removing products are water based, some are powder. The water based won’t cause more damage than you’ve already caused with the water and soap. Water and soap pull the natural oils from the leather leaving it stiff.
For blotting, use toilet paper or tissues, they are more absorbent than towels or paper towels.

I would take them and wash them. But first scrub them off with a baking soda/ Lemon jusice/ and water mixture. Scrub at the stains then put them in the wahing machine. If that dosen’t get the smell out go get some of that pet urine stuff that is used to get the smell out of dog and cat pee.

Use a thick clean cloth to soak up as much as possible. Then splash a little luke warm water on it and sop up the liquid. Once it dries completely, sprinkle liberally with baking soda and let it sit for about an hour or more then just vacuum off. (You may want to empty the vac after getting it done.) Then brush the suede with a nylon bristled brush to make the suede look good.
